Back in the 1990's (you know that other century) we spent a few years contructing a home with the remnants of our mother Sara's homeplace that was located just a few miles away in the Mazeppa community. We used the old logs, the heart pine floors (which became our cabinetry), the doors and anything else we could. Our steps and our hearths contain the stones from Uphome, the remains of our father's homeplace in northern Iredell County. A lot of life was lived amongst that wood and stone and we do our best to keep the history going. |
